Hennes mamma flydde ensam med sina barn från Ingermanland, ett finskspråkigt område i Ryssland, under andra världskriget. I Norrland träffade hennes mor en svensk soldat som blev far till Brita. Pappan blev kvar men Brita och hennes familj kom till Jonsered.
